Welcome to Quiet Ride ...

Sick of noisy iPods on trains?

Want to do something about it?

Quiet Ride is a campaign to silence noisy iPods on public transport in Sydney, Australia.

The campaign document is under construction, but you can see it's progress by emailing quietrideblog@yahoo.com.au. It is a downloadable Word document which includes an iPod Noise Survey to print, fill out and send to Transport Minister John Watkins. The document will be handed out at train stations shortly.

Spread the word!

I support the Quiet Ride campaign. On frequent visits to Sydney we have noticed the unacceptable noise levels in the trains, and also in the stations. The constant droning of commuter music, and the discordant sound of announcements is a real stressor - a real turn-off. Even a big city like New York has recognised the health hazards of commuter noise. There is also the problem of commuters being oblivious to external auditory alerts should some unforeseen circumstance arise. The government should be serious about ensuring that train carriages and stations are quiet places - for health and safety reasons. Noise is the soulmate of bad behaviour. You can be sure of one thing - where there is trouble - there is usually noise. And do commuters want trouble? I think not.
Come on, NSW government - catch up to the New York Noise Code - they've left you behind!
